Black Philanthropy Month 2025

Bg On Orange Thumb Right

This year’s theme is Sankofa Now! Remember, Reclaim, Rise.

August is Black Philanthropy Month in Washington state and around the world — an inclusive opportunity to celebrate the legacy of Black giving and inspire increased investment in Black communities.

The past holds the key to our future. As we navigate growing challenges—where DEI initiatives are under attack, and Black-led movements are being sidelined—we must draw strength from those who came before us. Sankofa Now! is more than a reflection; it’s a rallying call.

What can philanthropy do for reparations?

SAARC – World of Repair Campaign is bringing together philanthropic leaders and innovators in reparations for our 2nd Annual Civic Dialogue. We’ll be discussing strategies that philanthropy can utilize to catalyst and scale up reparations advocacy on Tuesday, August 26th at 11am.

Our special keynote is Temi Bennett, an acclaimed thought leader in galvanizing radical imagination when it comes to reparations and philanthropy. This is a lunchtime conversation you won’t want to miss!

Learn together

Black people have a rich history of investing our time, talent, and treasure to care for our communities In the face of anti-Blackness. We are the most generous — giving a higher proportion of our incomes than any other racial group. From Black churches and mutual aid to fraternities, sororities, and scholarships, Black philanthropy nourishes our well-being.

Expand your knowledge of Black philanthropy — its origins, history, leaders, and impacts.
